Fall Fashion Essentials

Fall is here and I’m so excited to be able to say that sentence. Not only is it my birthday and pumpkin spice latte season, but for me it’s also the best season in terms of fashion. Don’t get me wrong, I love the warm weather in summer but I can’t say I love having to expose my entire body, including the bits that I hate. I feel like my style is always at it’s best in fall and I also feel the best about myself. Over the years I’ve collected some fashion essentials that I know I couldn’t face a fall without and I thought I’d share them with you, too. I’ll link some of my favourites incase you want to pick any of these items up. So, without further ado, here’s my Fall Fashion Essentials…

Chelsea Boots

To be honest, Chelsea Boots are not just a fall essential for me but an all-year-round essential, too. The main reason that I love these boots is that they are so incredibly versatile. You can wear these boots with any outfit, on any occasion and they still look amazing. I have worn these with tailored trousers to work, with dresses in the summer, with ripped jeans and a sweatshirt, out to fancy dinners or just to the grocery store. From a more practical point of view – they’re sturdy, they keep your feet warm and they’re perfect for any weather fall might throw at you. Throughout fall these are the shoes that I reach for instinctively and if you don’t have them in your fall wardrobe you need to change that now.

Biker and/or Aviator Jacket

I combined these two into one because I don’t think that you need both, but you definitely need at least one. I am a long time supporter of the biker jacket. Like Chelsea Boots, a Biker Jacket can take you anywhere and everywhere. I wear my biker jacket to the gym, to dinner or to the club. Biker Jackets are that perfect light jacket for the Fall days when you need an extra layer but nothing too thick.

I finally caved and bought an Aviator Jacket at the start of September and I have had to physically stop myself from wearing it too much. Aviator Jackets for me are the perfect jackets for those ‘in-between’ times of year, because the fur lining provides that added layer of warmth that a Biker Jacket won’t give you. As I live in Montreal, this will definitely not suffice as a winter coat for me, but for anyone living in the UK or more mild climates, an aviator jacket would probably take you right through to the spring. My aviator jacket will hopefully take me through to at least early December and I know I’ll be getting it back out again as soon as Spring comes around. The most famous Aviator Jacket is the Acne Studios Velocite jacket (£2100), but there are some incredible dupes on the high-street now, including the one that I got from Zara (£90).

No matter whether you go for a biker jacket, an Aviator jacket or both, they’re definitely Fall Fashion Essentials in my eyes.

Ripped Jeans

It might sound obvious to say that jeans are a fashion essential in the fall but I’m not just talking about any type of jeans, I’m talking about ripped jeans specifically. For me, ripped jeans are an absolute no-go in winter, which means it’s important to make the most of them whilst we can. The weather during the Fall can be super unpredictable, so it’s nice to be able to cover up but still have a little skin on show, just in case. Although I maybe wouldn’t go as far as to say that I would wear ripped jeans anywhere, you can wear them most to places/occasions and they can be a great way to add a little extra detail to an outfit or also a great way to make something look a little less dressy. Unfortunately for me, I can’t wear Mom jeans because of my body type, but if I could, you would definitely see me in some ripped Mom jeans this time of year.

This fall in particular I have been loving finishing off a fall outfit with a pair of sunglasses. The way I feel about sunglasses is similar to how many people feel about a hat – if someone is wearing a great pair of sunglasses I don’t even notice their hair, makeup or outfit. Recently I’ve been reaching again and again for my RayBan Wayfarers especially if I’m in a rush and having a bad hair day. They’re the perfect effortless way to accessorize your outfit and they actually do come in useful on those sunny Fall days.

Blanket Scarves

My Blanket Scarf collection is something to behold, even if I do say so myself. As someone who spends 99% of their time wishing they were in bed, being able to basically wear a blanket as part of my outfit is something I’m all for. I feel like in Fall you never know what weather you will get and so that ‘just in case’ aspect is key. A blanket scarf is a great way to plan for the just in case, I love layering a huge blanket scarf over a biker jacket for added warmth. The BEST blanket scarves are from Zara but I also have some in my collection from ASOS and Topshop that I love.

Over the Knee Boots

I feel like mentioning two pairs of boots is kind of annoying, but I cannot live without over the knee boots in the Fall. I feel like it’s also a little more acceptable as they are a totally different vibe to chelsea boots. I love wearing over the knee boots with jeans in the winter but in the Fall I love wearing them skirts and dresses. It’s such a great way to look cute but also stay warm when the weather is getting a little colder. One of my favourite fall outfits it’s a t-shirt dress, with a pair of the over the knee boots, a biker jacket and a blanket scarf.

The cult-classic over the knee boots are of course the Stuart Weitzman Lowland and Highland boots, but again there are some amazing high street Stuart Weitzman dupes, one of which I have.

Camel Coat

Again, I’m sorry to mention two items in the same category but I’m going to let myself off on a technicality, because the other items were jackets and this one is a coat. If you don’t already own a camel coat, that’s absolutely something that you need to change this fall. I bought a camel coat from Zara last year and I have worn it to death. Camel is a colour that goes with absolutely everything and anything. Plus, camel coats are super versatile and look amazing with both smart and casual outfits. The iconic camel coat is of course by MaxMara but you can get some incredible high street dupes, too.
