Missguided Satin Wrap Dress Review and How I Styled it

When I bought this missguided satin wrap dress I had never intended to write a blog post about it. However, after wearing it to a formal event over the weekend I loved it so much that I felt like I should share it with you.

The main reason I love this dress is that it’s super flattering. I always find that if I’m wearing something I feel even a tiny bit insecure in, I won’t enjoy my night and sometimes it’s really hard to find things I feel comfortable in. The way the material of this dress drapes is super flattering if you’re insecure about your stomach and the long sleeves are great if you’re insecure about your arms. However, the low cut neckline, the short length and the slit in the skirt keep the dress super glamorous and perfect for nighttime. I felt like I didn’t need to feel insecure in this dress at all.

They do this missguided satin wrap dress in so many different colours and I love them all (I particularly love this chartreuse one but I definitely could not pull off yellow). I went for the khaki because it’s one of my favourite colours on myself and I thought it would be different to black which most other people at the event would probably be wearing. It also looked so good with a tan. I did order it in black as well, just in case, but I found that the material didn’t look as good and as a result, it looked a lot more plain and boring. To be honest the material these dresses are made from doesn’t feel amazing to the touch but it does look really luxurious which is definitely more important to me.

I was unsure of what size to order because the reviews on the missguided site were mixed. Many people said it came up big but I always prefer something too big than too small, so I went with my normal size and it ended up being perfect. I always find missguided true to size and I’ve never had an issue with sizing from them. I think if I had sized down, it probably would’ve been a little more fitted on the body which may have been nice but then the arms may have been too tight and it may not have had the same drapey effect.

I think it looked great the way I styled it for the formal event, I felt super confident in it and not under or overdressed. However, I also wore it to a club for the after party with my over the knee boots and it also looked perfect in a more casual setting. It’s rare for me to buy a dress for this kind of event and feel like I will wear it again but with this one, I can see myself wearing it a lot. I honestly cannot recommend this dress enough, whether you have a formal event or just for a night out. It made my night so much better to feel great in what I was wearing.

How I styled it:

Shoes – I chose to style this dress with a pair of nude lace-up heels from missguided. I got these over a year ago but they are still on their website. I love these heels, they’re not super high which makes them pretty comfy and I think they look so gorgeous on. Also because they’re nude you can wear them with pretty much anything AND they’re an exact dupe of these Aquazzura ones.

Bag – My go-to bag for this kind of occasion is my Mulberry Lily. Mine is the small size (not the mini) and I find that it’s the perfect size for night time and such a classic. I have mine in the light pink/nude which looks great with my shoes but again, I find I can wear this with anything.

Jewellery – I wore quite a lot of jewellery with this dress but because it was just one block colour I felt like I needed to. My bracelets, watches and rings were my everyday ones (which I explained in this post). But for necklaces, I felt like I needed more gold than silver, so I picked up a set of two gold chokers from Forever 21 (similar here) and layered them together. They were so inexpensive but I absolutely love them and I know I’m gonna continue to wear them a lot. I also layered a gold lariat necklace from Aldo which again I love and was inexpensive, but I feel like because it was so dainty it didn’t stand out as much as I’d hoped.

Hair and Makeup –  I thought this dress would look amazing with hair up, but I’m terrible with hair so I just went for my classic loose waves. I also wore a brown smokey eye which is my go-to nighttime makeup look at the moment (let me know if you want a post on this) and MAC number 3 lashes (my faves).

I loved this outfit so much and I hope you guys did too. Leave me a comment letting me know what you think!
