Whenever there’s a new fashion trend or item that I’m interested in, I always like to buy an affordable version first as a test run, to see whether I actually like it as much as I thought I would, whether it suits me and whether I actually wear it before I invest in a more expensive version.
Recently, I’ve seen a lot of girls wearing oversized denim jackets and I think they look so effortlessly cool. I saw a couple online that I loved (https://brunettethelabel.com/collections/jackets/products/the-medium-rocker-denim-jacket-brunette) but they were quite expensive and I didn’t want to spend a lot of money, only to find out I wasn’t cool enough to pull it off. So I decided to find an affordable alternative (for now).
Forever 21 is always my go to in situations like this. They always have all the trend pieces but for super affordable prices, so when I was in Boston I headed there to find an oversized denim jacket. Of course, they had so many different options. They had all different washes, distressed and non-distressed, embroidered, cut-off, etc. I picked up about 10 to try on as well as a couple from the men’s section thinking they would be perfect for the boyfriend look. In the end, I chose this one – from the women’s section:
I am so happy with this jacket. It’s a mid-blue wash, slightly distressed, very oversized and has ‘New York’ embroidered on the bottom of the back. I don’t normally love when clothing has city name slogans on it, but in this case, I think it’s quite subtle and it adds a little retro detail to the jacket which I really love. I find that for an oversized jacket this one is super flattering, it’s not too long and cuts off at the perfect point to accentuate my waist. I had initially thought I would buy one of the men’s jackets but when I tried them on they were really unflattering and I found that my figure got lost under all the excess material.
I have only owned this jacket for a week and I’ve already worn it almost every day. It’s perfect for the temperamental spring weather because you can wear it over a t-shirt on a warmer day or because it’s oversized you can layer it over jumpers and other jackets on colder days. I know I’ll be wearing this throughout the spring, definitely on summer nights and also into the fall. Right now I’m styling it with black jeans, a white t-shirt, leather Chelsea boots, my round ray-ban sunglasses and my alexander wang bag, but it will also look so cute over little dresses in the summer.
I’m so happy with this purchase that I don’t even know whether I need to invest in a more expensive one anymore. However, because I love this one so much I now have my eye on this light wash, distressed one too (https://api.shopstyle.com/action/apiVisitRetailer?id=630347871&pid=uid161-36446631-82). I also can’t decide whether I should buy some patches/badges and sew them onto this one, to make it even more retro? Let me know in the comments what you think I should do!
I hope you enjoyed this post and love my new jacket!
