My Current Skincare Routine (For Oily/Combination Skin)

Today’s post was supposed to be a 2016 favourites, but that’s taking me forever to write so I thought in the meantime I would do a post about my current skincare routine because I’m LOVING it and at least then I’m sticking to my new year’s resolution and posting content.

In order of how I apply the products to my face:

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water – Yes this is still in my skincare routine, but I definitely use it much less than I used to. Nowadays, I use this mainly just to take my makeup off before I cleanse or I use it when I get back from the gym.

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish – I’m completely obsessed with this. I’d been wanting to try it for a while (my mum uses it and she has beautiful skin), so I asked for it for Christmas. Every time I use it I feel like I’m at a spa, it smells AMAZING and the whole hot muslin cloth thing is so satisfying. Best of all, my skin has reacted to it amazingly, it’s so smooth and soft and I definitely have fewer spots than I used to.

Botanics All Bright Purifying Face Scrub – I said I loved this in the skin care haul I posted in June and that hasn’t changed at all. I use this religiously 3-4 times a week and I have just bought my second bottle. It smells amazing and it leaves my skin so soft! I like that it’s not a super gentle exfoliator and so it does actually do something, but it’s also not too harsh (it doesn’t leave my skin red or hurting). I’m so surprised that I haven’t heard/read more about this product because I think as a drugstore exfoliator its amazing.

Simple Clear Skin Oil Balancing Moisturizer – Again, another product I talked about in my skin care haul in June. I loved this for a good 3 months last summer and then I ran out of it (in Canada so I couldn’t get any more). I tried a few other moisturizers until I went back to England but I just don’t like any of them as much as I like this. I definitely don’t have the oiliest skin in the world but its definitely more oily than dry and so I like to be careful about oily moisturizers. I love the consistency of this, its so smooth and wet and it sinks into the skin quickly but doesn’t disappear (you can definitely tell you’ve moisturised). If you have normal/oily skin I would really recommend this moisturizer.

Botanics Radiant Youth Hydrating Eye Cream – Over the Christmas period I decided I was in need of an eye cream. I didn’t want to spend a lot as I’m just getting into eye cream, so I thought I would try one from Botanics (given how much I love their exfoliator) and surprise, surprise – I love it! It is super hydrating and my dark circles are noticeably better – so much so that my mum even commented on it the other day. I can’t recommend botanics skin care enough if you’re looking for something affordable yet effective.

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion – I’m mildly ashamed to admit that I bought this because I saw Kylie Jenner talk about it on her snapchat. However in my defence the online reviews of this also say that it is amazing. I’ve been using it for about a week and I like it quite a lot. It’s not what I thought it would be – I thought I would apply it one night and wake up the next day with no spots (that didn’t happen), but it’s definitely helpful none the less. It works in quite a weird way for me, it seems to act differently on each spot. With some spots I find that it makes them heal and start to go away, where as with others I find it just accelerates the process and the spot comes to a head much faster than it would on its own and so makes it come and go much faster? I’m not entirely sure what it’s doing but I do think that its working really well and I definitely have fewer actual spots after using this.

Soap And Glory ‘Dr Spot’ Super Strength Breakout Clearing Gel – Another one from my June haul. This has lasted a long time, I used it pretty much every day and I still have some left. I’m using this less now because of the Mario Badescu drying lotion, but I’m still using this during the day as it’s clear (which the drying lotion is not). I really like it and I do think that it helps with spots, I will be repurchasing this when mine runs out.

Origins ‘Out of Trouble’ 10 Minute Mask to Rescue Problem Skin – This is my current face mask of choice. I’m not massively into face masks and I definitely don’t use them as much as I should so I decided to get this one from Origins in an attempt to change that. I’ve not had this long (I asked for it for Christmas) but I have used it a few times and I’m still undecided on it. Again, like the Mario Badescu drying lotion I thought I would use this once and have no spots and again, that didn’t happen. I’m not sure that this mask helps the spots I already have on my face but I think it might prevent those under the skin from developing? I’m really unsure, I may have to update you on this when I’ve tested it a little more. The only thing I can say for definite about this mask is that it is quite drying so if you already have dry skin this one probably isn’t for you.

And that’s my current skin care routine, I hope you enjoyed this post. I titled it as for oily/combination skin but it can definitely be adapted for dry or normal skin by changing the moisturizer and face mask (and taking out the spot treatments if you’re lucky enough not to have any spots). I thought I would also add the update on Bio-Oil as promised in my June haul. I can’t really review it because I stopped using Bio-Oil before the 3 month mark. Being in the sun in the US, in August seemed to really help with the pigmentation issues, so I stopped using it. However now my pigmentation issues are back so I’m regretting stopping and I might have to start using it again. I will let you know if I do.

I hope you’re all having a beautiful January and keeping up with your resolutions!
